The most important spacer is where deck boards meet on end. It's this end grain to end grain connection that will rot quickly. We spaced that by 1/8" as well, and slightly rounded the ends of the boards. Also, we had doubled the joists here and left a good 2" space between them, so any water that goes through here will go straight down below the deck. |
