We decided to space the boards 1/8" apart. The larger the gap, the easier things fall through. The only disadvantage to lots of space is high heels. But who in the hell wears high heels on a deck in the country! 1/8" isn't that huge, but with the boards shrinking a bit, maybe it will do the trick.
