We raised the balluster by 1" from the floor (I used some Lee Valley blocks I had) and a 4" spacer between the rails.
About balluster spacing... I got a formula on the web about how to calculate even spacing between them, but I nixed that idea. I wanted the maximum 4" between them so as to not obstruct the view. So in Sketchup, I placed them all 4" apart, and then centered them all between the posts. I made sure that the ballusters closest to both posts were the same distance away, but all the others are 4" apart. This seemed like a good compromise, and it worked out great. |
