Let's see...The joists should be flush with the top of the ledger, the beams are under the joists, and the posts are under the beams.
I know they say measure twice, cut once but I say don't measure at all. I prefer to work with jigs instead. So I created a piece that was the exact height of a beam + a joist and we put this down on the post saddle. we placed a 2x4 scrap on top of this to be used as a story stick. The idea was to place the water level flush with the top of the ledger, and when the thing beeped, mark the line on the 2x4. That was the exact height of this first post. |
