  We decided to go with three beams per row, with spacers between them so that water could evacuate. We cut some pieces of 1/2" pressure-treated plywood in arrow shape, nailed them onto both sides of the centre beam, with the tip of the arrow facing up. The idea is that the water will have no where to puddle; it will just follow the arrow and fall down. We are doing everything we possibly can to avoid rot. And of course, we sealed the edges of ply spacers as well.
