Schedule a Template or Page
You can schedule a template or page for weekdays, date ranges, or time ranges. You can also specify specific schedules using plugins, for things like "play when the moon is full" or "play when the temperature reaches 30°C" or "play on the hour every 2nd day during the Christmas Holidays".
Scheduling Pages
If the page you want to schedule is in a higher priority magazine, we recommend scheduling magazines for time ranges, and pages for date ranges.
Before scheduling a page, make sure that there are pages in the default magazine that are scheduled to always be on air.
- In a single-magazine zone, there must be at least one page in the magazine's playlist that is set to always play.
- In a multiple-magazine zone, the bottom-most magazine (lowest priority) should be scheduled to always play, and it must contain at least one page that is set to always play.
Scheduling Templates
Scheduling a template can be handy, as all pages created from that template inherit the same schedule. However, if the template is to be used by Audience.billboard users, the default schedule must not be modified. See Templates for use with Audience.billboard for more information.
Note: data feed pages - You may change the date or time range of a data feed template, but do not modify any other data feed template settings
- Open the template or page in Audience.foundation and go to the Schedule Tab.
- Check the boxes next to the days of the week you want your page or template to be displayed.
- To schedule the date ranges:
- Click on the New button to open the Date Range Selector.
- From the calendar on the left select your start-date and from the calendar on the right select the end date. Templates must keep the default schedule if they are to be used in Audience.billboard.
- Click OK. You can add more than one date range.
- To schedule the time ranges:
- Click on the New button to open the Show Times dialogue.
- Add a single time range or multiple time ranges (see note below).
- Type in the start and stop times in this format: hh:mm:ss.
- If scheduling multiple time ranges, add frequency and duration.
- Click OK. Repeat to add more than one time range.
To delete a scheduled date range or time range
- Open the page or template
- Go to the Schedule tab and select the schedule you want to delete
- Press the X button.
Note: By default anything that can be scheduled is scheduled to Always play.
Scheduling beyond Midnight
Schedules are for a day (from 12:00am to 11:59pm). If you need to schedule an element to begin on the evening of one day, and end on the next day, you must either create two schedules: one for the first day, ending at 11:59:59 and the other beginning at 12:00:00, or use the PlanWeek or PaintWeek plugins.
Scheduling for use with Audience.billboard
When you want a template to be used in Audience.billboard for remote page creation, the template’s date range schedule must have a start date of Jan 1, 1980 and an end date of Dec 30 3000, which is the default.
Schedule a Magazine Instead of Multiple Pages
If you need a group of pages to play at specific times, consider creating and scheduling a magazine instead. Then cut/paste the pages into the new magazine, or create the pages directly in that magazine, and then schedule the magazine. This is ideal as you avoid having to schedule each page individually, and you have a better idea of what plays when, simply by looking at the magazine schedule.
You play a Lost and Found or Real Estate segment every weekday between 1 and 2pm. Create a magazine that is scheduled to play at those times, and put all Lost and Found or Real Estate pages in that magazine's playlist. Raise the priority of the magazine so that it is above any magazine that is scheduled to play "always", and if no higher priority magazine conflicts, the magazine will always play between 1 and 2 on weekdays. It will cycle through all pages in its playlist.
You can easily schedule individual pages to play within a date range (say from Jan 1 to Jan 20).
Note: It is good practice to schedule a magazine for time ranges, and then individual pages for date ranges.
More Scheduling Options
Audience.foundation can generate multiple time ranges automatically. When you select “Add multiple time ranges”, simply enter a start and stop time (like noon to 6pm), a frequency (like once per hour), and a duration (like 3 minutes). Audience.foundation will generate individual schedules for each time range.
