Gather Server Mode

The Gather Server mode works like both the master and playback simultaneously.

The playback mode synchronizes a single or multiple playbacks from a master Audience.foundation system. It also serves that content to remote playbacks.

This is useful for a number of scenarios.

  • To remotely locate the server at an ISP with higher bandwidth connectivity to the Internet as compared to the master Audience.foundation system.
  • To remotely locate the Gather/Server at a location where there will be many co-located playbacks, so each playback only has to synchronize to the local Gather/Server, rather than to the master Audience.foundation system.
  • To remotely locate the Gather/Server(s) in different geographical parts of a country, to improve the synchronization performance of playbacks in those areas.
  • To expand the number of playbacks that can be served. Up to 25 Gather Servers can be connected to an Audience.foundation master creation system. Each Gather Server can currently serve 100 playbacks.
  • If the playback client connects to a Gather/Server, and requests a playback profile that isn't on the Gather Server, the Gather Server will check with the Master Audience.foundation system to see if the playback exists. If it does, it will add it to it's sync list. This is for large network deployment. This option is enabled by default. To disable it, go to Start > All Programs > Digimation > Audience.sync configuration on the Gather/Server computer, select the Master tab and uncheck Auto Add playbacks.

To set up a Gather Server mode, follow the instructions in Set up Audience.sync on the Master System and Set up Audience.sync on a Playback Only System.

If you require local content to be created on the Gather Server playback see Allowing Local Content on a Remote Playback.
