Configure Audience.web (fullscreen) on a Thin Client

To setup Audience.web (fullscreen mode) on a thin client, you must first Configure Audience.web on the Master System. When the Master Audience.foundation system is properly configured, follow these instructions to configure the thin client.

1.Setup the OSStart with a fully functioning and up-to-date Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12.

Set your system to Auto Logon. To do this:

  • Start > Run and enter control userpasswords2.
  • Select the account you want to log-in as, and un-check the 'Users must enter a Username and Password to use this computer' checkbox.
  • Click OK.

2.Setup Video Capture Cards (Optional)If you are going to be capturing and displaying local live video, your capture hardware should be installed and working. See Configure Live Video for details.

3.Configure the Desktop Resolution
Right click on the desktop and select Screen resolution in Windows 7. Set your desktop resolution to be the same as the Audience.web show you will be displaying (for example 1024x768).
John's note: As we were talking about recently there is an option in guardian to have it set the monitor resolution automatically. I've never tried it with powerstrip so i'm not sure if that will work or not though.
Advanced configuration for non-standard resolutions, Portrait resolutions, and Multi Head displays.

  • Non Standard Resolution. If you want to display a playback with a resolution that your VGA driver doesn't support, you can use a utility like Powerstrip, available at http://www.entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm.
  • Portrait mode displays. any VGA drivers will allow you to 'rotate' your display for portrait mode. There is a setting for this in Desktop > Screen Resolution. If your display driver doesn't support the Rotate feature, you can use a utility like Pivot available here; http://www.portrait.com/enu/pivot/overview.html
  • Multi Head Display. Audience can support multi head VGA displays, such as the Matrox QID. Use the 'stretch' mode in your Multi Head display drivers to 'stretch' the desktop across all displays, and match the resolution of your Audience.web multi-head show. For example, on a Matrox QID select 4096x768 for a 4 head display. Audience.web can support 2,3, and 4 head displays. Follow the instructions that came with your multi-head VGA card to set the stretch mode and resolution as described above.

4.Configure Internet Access and Firewall
Configure the computer for Internet, LAN, or WAN connectivity. Test to make sure you can browse to a Web page on the desired network.

If you are connected to the Internet, make sure you have Windows Firewall, or another firewall (for example a DSL or Cable router) installed for added security. You can close all ports except if you want to use the Audience.guardian SNMP network monitoring feature. In this case you will have to open port 161. For information on SNMP monitoring of thin clients, please contact support@capitalnetworks.com.

5.Configure Internet ExplorerLaunch Internet Explorer, then go Tools > Internet Options and select the Settings button under “Temporary Internet Files” or “Browsing History” depending on the version you are using.

  • In the Check for Newer Versions of Stored Pages section, enable 'Every visit to the page'.
  • In the Amount of Disk Space to use section, set the amount to 3/4 of the total available space on disk.
  • Select OK to exit this screen.

If your thin client display computers are browsing to the Audience.web server over the Internet, or a Wide Area Network, you will need to configure Internet Explorer’s security settings. If your thin client display computers are connected to your Audience.web server over a LAN, you can skip this next step and go to Step 6.

Switch to the Security Tab and click on the Trusted Sites icon. Press the Sites… button, and enter the base URL of your Audience.web server, i.e. http://yoururl.com.

  • Uncheck “Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone).
  • Enter the base URL of your Audience.web server, i.e. http://yoururl.com.
  • Press Add then press OK For security reasons, make sure this is the only site in the Trusted Sites list below. If there are additional sites, remove them by highlighting them and pressing the 'Remove' button.
  • Click OK to exit Internet Explorer

All systems (whether on LAN or internet) should also set their security settings to medium-low. This will have to be done using the Custom Level button on the security tab. Choose medium-low from the drop down list at the bottom and click Reset. If this is not done the title bar and status bar will be visible when in fullscreen mode.

 6.Install Audience.guardian plugin

  • On the thin client, browse to http://YourAudienceWebServer.com/audience.web/install.
  • Click on the link to upgrade to the latest Macromedia Flash plugin or the link to Downlad the Windows Media Player plugin for Chrome and Firefox, depending on the browser you will be using.
  • Follow the instructions on the web page asking you to install Audience.guardian.
  • Select Autostart (for full screen kiosk mode web display) or Screensaver which displays a full kiosk mode web page only when the the computer is idle.
  • The Configure Audience.guardian window appears.
  • If your Audience.web server is setup to require passwords, click the 'Password Settings' button. Check the 'This Server requires a password' checkbox, and enter the appropriate Username and Password. Click OK. If your Audience.web server doesn't require passwords, skip this step.
  • Click the 'Playback List' button. Enter the base URL of your Audience.web server, i.e. www.MyAudienceWebServer.com. Click the 'Get playback List from Server' button. Select the playback you want to display and click the OK. button.
  • In Browser type, select from Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Kiosk Browser (which fixes issues with Internet Explorer v8 and Windows 7).
  • Click the OK button on the configuration window.

Audience.guardian will now run and start your selected display. If you turn off your computer, Audience.guardian will re-start your display when the computer is turned on again.

If you need to exit out of the display for any reason, press Alt + Tab until you see the Audience.guardian icon. Press the Exit button. Confirm Exit with OK. Press Alt+F4 to exit the display.

Note to John via IM Jan 31 2012: publisher on guardian installer is Digimation Incorporated. Must be changed to capital and the screenshot has to change. John says it’s easier to wait until it expires.

The first time you browse to a .web server you may be asked to install the PingAG plugin. This is required for .web to communicate with guardian. If you have the live plugin configured on the server you may be asked to install the DigiVidPreview plugin.
